DogFest 2026 Official Charity Partner

Who we are?

The National Foundation for Retired Service Animals (NFRSA) is a registered charity (1200949), formed in 2022 and with a passion for helping the amazing service animals who do so much to keep us safe. Our mission is to ‘Protect Our Protectors’.

What we do?

We support the owners of retired service animals with the costs of veterinary care in their twilight years, helping them to live the life they deserve.

Who we support?

With a rapidly growing membership, we support retired animals from the Police, Prison, Border Force, Fire & Rescue and National Crime Agency services. We are also proud to support NHS specialist search dogs and retirees from the MOD Police and RAF Police.
To date we have supported 371 applications for assistance, and have gifted a total of £242,357.

Why get involved?

Supporters of the NFRSA help us to make sure the animals who have given their working lives to protect us, can enjoy dignity, care, and compassion in their retirement.

Everything we do is driven by the firm belief that no owner should ever have to choose between unbearable debt and saying goodbye to a beloved partner.

At the NFRSA, we have a deep understanding of the unique bond between handler and service animal. These are not “just dogs” or “just horses”. They are partners. Confidants. Lifelines. Many handlers credit their dogs with saving their lives – physically and mentally – time and time again.
