ALICE HOLT FOREST
Journey a few miles further south and you will find Alice Holt Forest, part of the Surrey National Downs Park, a stunning 610 acres of forest, with walks, cycle trails, the famous childrens Gruffalo trail, GO Ape. There is a dog friendly café and even a dog wash facility.
FRENSHAM POND
Frensham Great Pond and Frensham Little Pond together comprise a stunning location of woodland, heathland, a manmade sandy beach, café and ample parking. This delightful waterside location is the ideal place for families and dogs alike.
Hydon’s Ball, Hydestile to Hambledon and back (2-2.5 hours)
Start at the free car park on Salt Lane GU8 4BB. There are a number of footpaths you can take. I like to take the main path straight ahead and up a steady hill. At the brow of the hill take a sharp right up a very steep incline. Don’t give up as the view at the top is definitely worth it!! As you reach the top of Hydon’s Ball the trees clear and to the south the views are incredible, looking to Hindhead, Blackdown and the South Downs.
Head down the sandy track the way you came and turn right at the bottom, through the woods until you reach a stile. Head across the field following the path towards Hambledon Church to the Hambledon road. Well behaved dogs off lead is fine as there are no livestock in these fields. Turn right to reach the Merry Harriers – a great dog and family friendly pub. Then retrace your steps, skirt around the steep incline to the viewpoint and back to the car park.
